The beginnings of a good relationship
Issuing a challenge over to republish your first blog post, Kirk M at Just Thinkin’ has chanced upon a fine excuse for me to start the engines on a shiny new blog. It’s seven years since my group emails grew weary to those receiving home recorded MP3’s of Billy Corgan-esque covers. Thinking a Blog would be a decent replacement of ‘Select All’ in the address book, I wrote this just before a solo trip to London – age 20.
To usher in this permanent home for me and various beekeeping/organic/web 2.0 endeavours, I present the results below – Early October, 2001. Be back soon, and here’s to you, and us.
and “Switch on……….
4 weeks to go today!!!!!! Excited, nervous, scared and sadness all at once……Everything seems 15% more daring at the moment, with the past weeks events in America and the feeling that everything isn’t okay anymore – “the end of the age of innocence” as one news clip put it. It’s been a sleepless few nites as the coverage streams in from America. There isn’t any real threat that looms over my trip but the uncertainty of events to come is what really matters when you’re a long way from home.
It’s only now that I’m telling my friends and family to look after each other, and that they’ll be in my thoughts when I’m not near….
I’ll be touching down on the 18th October at 0550h, where I’ll head into the city to dump my stuff at a cosy hostel I just finished booking. Then it’s off to a London bus tour for a couple of hours. I’ll be the one sitting up the back squinting at the sites and sounds as I reel from my impending jet lag. A huge sleep will follow and then it’s day 2 where the search for work starts…..Sounds like fun eh? Well, after the first 2 weeks when I settle in and come to terms with the distance from home it should be a lot of fun. I’ll have a few people to meet up with, and do the atipoedean thing. I’ve heard some great stuff about Edinburgh recently and I’m thinking of having a look up there after a couple of months.
The next post might well be from London but I’ll see how I go.
